Another thin blue candle
to say – thank you, life
for another week
and on this occasion
another year.

How sweet, to meet
my gratitude
dancing quietly
with my longing
to retreat.

I think it was me, who said –
all one damned and beautiful river.
And I have to agree with myself.

I have reached the beginning
of being old, and am astonished
and touched, to find
so much simplicity
waiting patiently
for me to catch up.

Thank you, dear Life
for turning
another year
in me.
